Wegovy/Mounjaro Consultation
A required 15-30 minute consultation to assess your suitability for Wegovy and Mounjaro treatment.
Service Description
Medical Weight Management Consultation This 30-minute medical consultation is the first step in your medically supervised weight management journey. Our healthcare professional will review your medical history, assess your goals, and determine whether Wegovy or Mounjaro is safe and appropriate for you. Where clinically indicated, blood tests can be arranged to assess relevant markers such as blood glucose, cholesterol, liver function, and other metabolic parameters prior to treatment. This ensures any prescribed medication is suitable for your individual health profile. Both Wegovy and Mounjaro are prescription-only medicines and must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Wegovy® (semaglutide) Wegovy is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise for chronic weight management in adults with: • BMI ≥ 30 (obesity), or • BMI ≥ 27 with at least one weight-related comorbidity such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or dyslipidaemia. Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that helps regulate appetite by reducing hunger and increasing feelings of fullness. It is administered once weekly as a subcutaneous injection. The dose is gradually increased to improve tolerability. Wegovy should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) Mounjaro is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise for chronic weight management in adults with: • BMI ≥ 30, or • BMI ≥ 27 with at least one weight-related comorbidity. It is also indicated for adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes. Tirzepatide is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist that helps regulate appetite and metabolic control. It is administered once weekly as a subcutaneous injection with gradual dose escalation. Mounjaro should not be used during pregnancy. All prescriptions require medical assessment. Wegovy and Mounjaro are not government-funded medicines in New Zealand. For full prescribing information, visit: www.medsafe.govt.nz
