Anti-Wrinkle

A SmartTox That's well-made

How it works

botox how it works.webp

Anti-wrinkle injections work by relaxing specific facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, such as frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet. When injected into the targeted muscle, the purified botulinum protein temporarily blocks nerve signals, reducing the muscle's ability to contract.

As the underlying muscle relaxes, the overlying skin becomes smoother and less creased, resulting in a softer and more refreshed appearance. This effect is temporary and typically lasts 3 to 4 months, with results appearing gradually over a few days after treatment.

What is Anti-wrinkle Injection?

Anti-wrinkle injections are treatments that use botulinum toxin to temporarily relax specific facial muscles. By reducing muscle activity, they help smooth dynamic lines and prevent the deepening of wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions such as frowning, smiling, or squinting.

Commonly used brands include Xeomin®, a highly purified German-made botulinum protein, and Nabota, a Korean-developed formulation known for its precision and clinical performance.

Both work by blocking nerve signals to targeted muscles, resulting in a softer, more refreshed appearance with reduced lines and creases.

  • What can I expect?
Prior to all treatments at Lab Clinic A full medical history will be taken and you will have the opportunity to discuss any concerns and expected outcomes. You will need to complete a consent form prior to your treatment and pre treatment photos will be taken. The area of treatments will be cleaned prior the injection. Botox, Nabota or Xeomin are injected into the muscle, using a small disposable syringe with a very fine needle. Most people tolerate the treatment without any local numbing and describe the sensation as pinch or sting only lasting for a few seconds. The procedure itself takes around 10 to 15 minutes. Your skin might be slightly red and raised at the injection site for a couple of minutes after your treatment.
  • What is the difference between Xeomin® and Nabota®?
While both Xeomin® and Nabota are botulinum toxin type A injectables used to reduce dynamic wrinkles, they differ slightly in formulation and origin: Xeomin® is a highly purified product from Germany (Merz Aesthetics) that contains only the active neurotoxin without accessory proteins. This may reduce the risk of resistance over time. Nabota is developed in South Korea (Daewoong Pharmaceutical) and is known for its clinical precision and rapid onset. It contains botulinum toxin with stabilizing proteins, similar to other conventional brands. Both are safe and effective, and your clinician will recommend the most suitable option for your needs
  • Is Nabota® as Safe as Other Brands?
Yes. Nabota, formulated with prabotulinumtoxinA by Daewoong Pharmaceutical in South Korea, is considered safe and effective, similar to other leading botulinum toxin products. It has undergone rigorous clinical evaluations and adheres to high manufacturing standards. In the United States, Nabota is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the brand name Jeuveau®, specifically for treating moderate to severe glabellar (frown) lines. In South Korea, Nabota is likewise approved for similar cosmetic uses and has expanded medical indications, such as upper limb spasticity and crow’s feet. In New Zealand, Nabota is recognized and regulated by Medsafe. As with other medicines and medical devices, it must be listed in the Web-Assisted Notification of Devices (WAND) database to be legally marketed—indicating official registration and oversight
  • How long does the result last?
Results from anti-wrinkle injections typically last around 3 to 4 months, depending on factors such as the treatment area, your facial muscle activity, skin condition, and the dosage used. At The Lab Clinic, we offer both Xeomin® and Nabota, and both provide similar longevity in results. For best outcomes, we recommend regular maintenance treatments, as consistent use can help slow the development of deeper, more permanent wrinkles. A 2-week follow-up appointment is encouraged to review your results and offer touch-ups if needed.
  • What are the possible side effects?
Anti-wrinkle injections with Xeomin® or Nabota are generally well tolerated, but mild and temporary side effects can occur. These may include: Redness or swelling at the injection site Bruising Mild discomfort or tenderness Occasional headache Less common but possible effects include temporary drooping of the eyelid, eyebrow, or mouth, depending on injection placement. To minimise risk, we advise avoiding rubbing the area, lying down for 3–4 hours, or undergoing facial treatments immediately after your session.
